Just in case you think it was only Mt Gox that was hacked we have put together a list of some of the major crypto currency exchange hacks that have taken place over the last few years (if you think we have missed any please let us know and we will update the list) :




  • May 8, 2023 - Bittrex US filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

  • December 27, 2022 - BTC.com lost $3m worth of Crypto in cyerb attack.

  • November 28, 2022 - BlockFi files for bankruptcy (blaming FTX collapse)

  • November 11, 2022 - FTX exchange liquidation - $1 billion lost.

  • November 2, 2022 - Deribit exchange hack - $28m stolen.

  • November 2, 2022 - DEX Rubic - $1m stolen.

  • October 7, 2022 - Binance BNB Token hack - $570m stolen.

  • June 28, 2022 - Harmony - $100m stolen.

  • June 8, 2022 - Optimism - 20 million OP token lost - worth $35m.

  • May 1, 2022 - Rari Capital, Fei Protocol & Saddle Finance - $90m stolen.

  • April 28, 2022 - Deus Finance DAO - $13.4 million stolen. (Twice in 2 months!)

  • March 22, 2022 - Ronin Network - $600 million stolen. (Hack started November 2021)

  • March 15, 2022 - Deus Financial - $3 million stolen.

  • February 2, 2022 - Portal by Wormhole - $326 million stolen.

  • February 13, 2021 - Cream Finance - $37 million stolen.

  • December 21, 2020 - EXMO - lost $4 million.

  • September 25, 2020 - Kucoin - lost $275 million.

  • July 11, 2020 - Cashaa - lost 336 bitcoins to hackers.

  • June 28, 2020 - Balancer - lost $500,000 in ETH.

  • April 19, 2020 - Lendf.me - lost $24.5 million.

  • April 18, 2020 - Uniswap - lost $300,000.

  • February 5, 2020 - Altsbit - multiple losses of both BTC and ETH.

  • November 4, 2019 – VinDAX - lost half a million U.S. dollars' worth of funds in various cryptocurrencies.

  • November 26, 2020 - Upbit - lost $49 million.

  • July 21 2019 – Bitpoint - lost 3.5 billion yen, 2.5 billion of which belonged to customers.

  • June 27, 2019 – Bitrue - lost 9.3 million XRP and 2.5 million ADA.

  • June 2019 – GateHub - lost $10m in Ripple.

  • May 7, 2019 – Binance - lost 7000 BTC.

  • March 29, 2019 – Bithumb - lost more than 3 million EOS and 20 million XRP in a hack.

  • March 24, 2019 – DragonEx - lost $7 million worth of cryptocurrency.

  • March 2019 – CoinBene - apparently lost over $100 million worth of cryptocurrency [CoinBene denies a hack occurred.]

  • January 2019 – Cryptopia - lost nearly 10% of all holdings.

  • December 2018 – QuadrigaCX - while technically not a hack, this exchange lost $190m of crypto when the founder and CEO Gerald Cotten died - it appears he was the sole controller of all the exchanges cold storage wallets!

  • October 28, 2018 – MapleChange - lost $6m and closed.

  • September 14, 2018 – Zaif - lost $60m in bitcoin, bitcoin cash and MonaCoin.

  • July 9, 2018 - Bancor - lost 24,984 ETH.

  • June 20, 2018 - Bithumb - lost $31 million in cryptocurrency in XRP from the South Korea-based exchange.

  • June 10, 2018 – Coinrail - lost $40m worth of various atlcoins.

  • April 2018 – CoinSecure - lost over 438 bitcoin.

  • February 9, 2018 – Bitgrail - lost $195m in Nao token (XRB).

  • January 26, 2018 – Coincheck - lost $500m in NEM coins.

  • December 20, 2017 – EtherDelta - lost 308 ETH.

  • December 19, 2017 – Youbit - lost 17% of the exchange’s entire holdings.

  • April 22, 2017 – Yapizon - lost 3,831 bitcoin then rebranded as Youbit.

  • October 13, 2016 - Bitcurex - lost more than 2,300 BTC.

  • August 2, 2016 – Bitfinex - lost 120,00 BTC.

  • May 12, 2016 – GateCoin - lost 250 BTC and 185,000 ETH which amounted to around 15% of its crypto asset deposits.

  • April 2016 – ShapeShift -lost about $230,000 in various crypto currencies.

  • February 18, 2015 – KipCoin - lost over 3,000 BTC.

  • February 14, 2015 – BTER - lost 7,170 BTC.

  • January 27, 2015 – LocalBitcoins - lost of 17 BTC.

  • January 5, 2015 – Bitstamp - lost 19,000 BTC from the Slovenia-based company.

  • October 2014 – MintPal - lost 3,700 BTC.

  • July 2014 – Cryptsy - lost 13,000 BTC and 300,000 LTC.

  • March 4, 2014 – Poloniex - lost 97 BTC .

  • March 2014 – CryptoRush - lost 950 BTC & 2,500 LTC.

  • February 7, 2014 – Mt.Gox - lost about 740,000 BTC. [$27M was also went missing from the company. Around 200,000 bitcoins have since been recovered.]

  • November 29, 2013 - Picostocks - lost 5,875 BTC.

  • November 17, 2017 - BIPS - lost 1,295 BTC.

  • November 11, 2013 – BitCash - lost $100,000 from 4,000 wallets.

  • October 23, 2013 - Inputs.io - lost 4,100 BTC.

  • December 21, 2012 - Bitmarket - lost 620 BTC.September 5, 2012 – BitFloor - lost over $250,000 in various crypto currencies.

  • September 12 2012 - Bitfloor - lost $250,000

  • March 1, 2012 – Bitcoinica - On 3 separate occassions lost 43,000 BTC, 40,000 BTC and finally another 18,400 BTC.

  • October 5, 2011 – Bitcoin7 - lost 5,000 BTC.
